Hello Ezekiel. Greetings from North Idaho Brother! Thank you for the great walkthrough on that GTR. Ironically, or not, my wife's car is a 1992 GTR in 732 with what we believe to be between 80,000 - 90,000 miles on it. The one in your video is in far better shape than ours though. I suspected that we had an issue with the MAF's since every so often the engine would bounce at 2,600 rpm's like a lumpy alcohol burning dragster. Good to know I was right about that. Found some OEM MAF's that I ordered off Yahoo! Auctions. But that's on one of many, many, many, many more problems we have to deal with still. Two years ago I ordered a Greddy oil cooler and filter relocation kit from Nengn and finally opened it up two weeks ago only to find the 130mm hose is missing. Not too big of deal since I get one made locally here for under $40. But I have no clue how to install this thing...the instructions don't say anything about the PCV valve boost solenoid that is installed exactly where the element flange is to go. I sure hope one of your customers will bring you another BNR32 to install that Greddy kit on it. Cause I sure could use a how to video on this! I was surprised to see there aren't any videos for installing this kit the R32 GTR anywhere on line. Not that I can do anything till I get the missing hose made, but it would be great to know what I have to do before I get stuck and then wind up with a car I can't fix! God bess you Bro!

what a save to not go into automotive. My family recommended to go into it because they see me tinker around my car a lot. w/ the service manual, I do mostly everything @ home. From tire change, alignment, & drivetrain swap/reassembly.

I'm a manufacturing engineer at a fortune 500 company in an unrelated industry, but I see the same thing: We can't get assemblers because we don't want to pay them enough to entice them away from any other job, every experienced assembler is desperate to get out of assembly and into some other job, and we pay them maybe $20 - $30/hr (more considering benefits I'm sure) when our shop cost is well over $200/hr. I guess I can't complain too much because I am part of the overhead that eats up the budget, but it really is a shame. And now the direction the company is going is to manufacture overseas, mostly just to get enough labor/capacity not as much for cost since we are blessed with very high margins. I don't know what to do about it. I think maybe it is a cultural thing where we need to give tradespeople more respect. And maybe improved wages, although considering overtime and shift differentials some of the guys on our shop floor make more than I do on a yearly basis even with a graduate degree and over 10 years experience in the industry...

For someone that claims to be a "global mechanic", with all the certifications and experience on i would guess, dozens of manufacturers? Why are you so focused on the GR86?! You don't even own one! All you do is create vods that show the negative side of this particular vehicle! Why don't you make a vod and let your viewers know why you focus so much on the GR86? I can honestly say i am probably not the only person that wants to know this!

Make sure you don't void your warranty

There’s a bulletin for this I believe , the vehicle will always output 12.5 volts unless the A/C or wiper blades are on due to the “smart alternator”. If you cut the CAN wire on alternator it will “fail safe” and keep the alternator outputting 14v.

What grease can be used to lubricate it? (Lucas Red and Tacky for example?) Can I go through the grommet for the clutch fork to get some extra grease down there without harm if careful?

do you have part numbers for all the bearings that you replaced? I also cant find a second gear synchro anywhere

Why didn't you mention the solution for replacement TOB? I know you have one and the WRXes / Subarus had these FOREVER (snout kits)? This is a must do once the snout starets grooving or preventative.

The same applies to Engineers. Leadership with MBA degrees set goals, budgets, and schedule. Engineers work overtime to make it happen, then leadership takes all the credit and pocket the bonuses.

Former Kia Master tech, ASE certified, Associates degree in automotive technology, 4 years in dealerships here. This industry is super corrupt. The people who own the industry don't care about the technology or the customers. The problems with this career are a glaring example of a common concern in the U.S. economy wherein the people who care about the actual thing that the industry does are exploited by those who specialize in making money for nothing.

I hope the industry changes. I’ve been either doing routine maintenance myself or take them to private auto shops over a dealer. Sucks some mechanics are dishonest and dealers reward them. Thanks for sharing.

watching this intelligent young man is like watching a good horror movie, I just want to hide under my blanket with my car... please give us a hint or advise what we can do to avoid that uneducated front men and the kiss ass lazy mechanic or right technician, when we walk into a dealer for work? I drive a mustang with coyote engine... and finally .. Please open your own garage, charge little extra but do the work you can be proud of, I know I would apricate it probably get a brz, if I have to. Rear wheel drive, 6 sp manual transmission and I am IN!... I would love to leave a garage and not wonder if they do the work? or how many short cut he take etc..

How much would this service cost?

I left the flat rate rat race one year ago tomorrow, and the improvement in my mental health has been worth more than money can buy. There is nothing you could offer me to get me back into a dealership because even if they offered salary or hourly, my work is still judged by the ever decreasing OEM labor times so it's a goal post I can't beat. Yep, glad I'm out. Love fixing cars, love helping customers, but I will never go back to the dealership.

I have never met a service advisor who knew anything about vehicles. They tell customers a line of bullshit & that is all they are good for. I apologise to any service advisors who DO know what they are talking about.

It's white culture that does this to customers. I only use non-white service providers - mechanics, plumbers, electricians etc. I get the work done for half the price and the quality is as good or better. I am white myself, but I learned many years ago to stay away from white-owned or white-run businesses, unless you are super rich and money is not a concern. Almost every time, if you need to pay someone to fix something for you, the minority run businesses will be the better choice. It has everything to do with the culture. I have a Chinese wife and we both joke around that we couldn't afford to live in this world if there were only white people to ask for help.
